As a young person, I was fascinated with biology and art. These two passions led me to study 'Scientific Illustration' at Southampton College of Art & Design, UK. Learning to draw and paint plant and animal life, in very fine detail with watercolours was exciting and joyful work. This was the start of a lifelong journey of discovery with nature as my teacher.
I moved to Ireland in the nineties and spent 20years, facilitating art classes and creativity workshops in my local community, work I found very rewarding. Encouraging others with their creativity sowed the seeds for setting my inner expression free. I followed my own creative voice, embracing broader scale work and different paint media. Trusting my heart to do the painting, I worked intuitively and with spontaneity.
Like the cycles of Nature, I have come full circle, returning to the joy of drawing and painting with ink and watercolour - this time in a more expressive way. Now I enjoy the freedom of moving between media, scale and colour.
I'm captivated by the simple beauty of nature. I find my own nature in petals of flowers, waves of water and movement of trees. I feel an affinity and admiration for the natural world's potential to grow and flourish. She is fragile and brave. In her presence I am nourished, connected and peaceful within. I carry and express these feelings in my original watercolour paintings, ink and pencil drawings. I often return to the theme of seeds and trees as symbols of life's transformation and growth. My small scale works are created from a meditative place within me.
My oil paintings give me the opportunity to explore vibrant colour on a large scale. Creating art from my heartspace that resonates with others, fills me with gratitude. It is my wish to continue creating works that evoke emotional connection, inspire reflection and bring joy into your home.
